Todo ano, antes do Natal, os estudantes da classe de Olivia Mead apresentam redações com o título de “Meu Desejo Impossível de Natal” – mas este ano algo incomum está acontecendo: os desejos estão se tornando realidade. Para Olivia, esta seria a oportunidade ideal, porque durante muito tempo ela vem desejando que sua mãe solteira encontre a pessoa certa, alguém que ela mesma possa chamar de “Papai”. Logo, a menina se convence que as respostas para este mistério têm relação com a casa abandonada do outro lado da rua e sua misteriosa habitante, uma reclusa senhora de nome Elsie Waybright. Seria ela uma espécie de… anjo?

Every year before Christmas, students of class essays Olivia Mead exhibit titled "My Wish Impossible Christmas" -  but this year something unusual is happening: the wishes are coming true. For Olivia, this would be the ideal opportunity, because for too long it has been wishing her single mother find the right person, someone who can call herself "Daddy." Thus, the girl becomes convinced that the answers to this mystery is related to the abandoned house across the street and its mysterious inhabitant, a reclusive woman named Elsie Waybright.
