Há 1000 anos, um cataclismo tornou a Terra um lugar hostil e forçou os humanos a se abrigarem no planeta Nova Prime, morando em naves espaciais. Depois de uma missão, o general Cypher Raige (Will Smith) retorna à sua família e ao filho de treze anos de idade (Jaden Smith). Mas pouco tempo após seu retorno, uma chuva de asteroides faz com que a nave onde moram caia na Terra. Com o pai correndo risco de morte, o jovem adolescente deverá aprender sozinho a domar este planeta, encontrando água, comida e cuidando de seu pai.

1000 years ago, a cataclysm Earth has a hostile place and forced humans to seek shelter on the planet New Prime, living in spaceships. After a mission, General Cypher Raige (Will Smith) returns to his family and the son of thirteen (Jaden Smith). But shortly after his return, a rain of asteroids that causes the ship to fall on Earth where they live. With his father in danger of death, the teenager must learn to tame this planet alone, finding water, food and caring for his father.

Hace 1000 años, un cataclismo Tierra tiene un lugar hostil y obligó a los humanos a buscar refugio en el planeta New Prime, que viven en naves espaciales.
