A adolescente Elissa (Jennifer Lawrence) e sua mãe divorciada Sarah (Elisabeth Shue) mudam para um bairro prestigiado para começarem uma  nova vida. Porém, os sonhos que elas tinham de um futuro melhor se transformam num pesadelo cruel, ao descobrirem que uma floresta próxima é assombrada por um assassino, e Elissa faz amizade com Ryan (Max Thieriot), o misterioso sobrevivente de um duplo assassinato, ocorrido na casa ao lado.

The Elissa teen (Jennifer Lawrence) and her divorced mother Sarah (Elisabeth Shue) move to a prestigious neighborhood to begin a new life. However, they had dreams of a better future turn into a cruel nightmare, when they discovered that a nearby forest is haunted by a murderer, and Elissa befriends Ryan (Max Thieriot), the mysterious survivor of a double murder that occurred in house next door.
